Athens Poly Meetup Presentation

Monday, November 3, 2014

Yesterday,  I traveled to Athens to present for the Athens Poly Meetup Group. What a wonderful group of people! I was asked to present on “What issues do Poly people bring to therapy.” The group was wonderfully attentive and asked engaging follow up questions. It was a pleasure speaking to this group and I would happily do it again.

So what issues do poly people bring to therapy? Well, first, they bring issues that have nothing to do with poly. They are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma history, or some other issue and they want a poly knowledgeable therapist because these issues effect their relationships and they want to be able to speak freely.

Poly specific issues that I talked about were communication, learning healthy communication and negotiating skills, knowing yourself and your partners well is important to negotiating, scheduling, self-care, and relationships with metamores.
